Third Quarter data released by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, reports that Careline Hospice leads the best-of-the-best hospice care providers in Michigan. This statistic is measured by the number of home visits provided to hospice patients under their care in the last 7 days at end-of-life.
Careline Hospice ranks in the top 1.5 percent of all 132 Michigan Hospices and is one of two Michigan Hospice Companies that provide more than 8 visits to patients in their last 7 days at end-of-life.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has found through its analyses of claims data that hospice patients receiving care at home received few skilled visits in the last 2 to 4 days of their life. CMS found that some hospice providers do not provide any skilled visits in the last 2 days of life to more than half of their patients. The bottom 25 percent of all Michigan hospices provided less than 3 visits and 8 Michigan Hospices provided none.
The average number of visits during the last seven days of end-of-life, amongst all of the 132 Medicare-certified hospice companies in Michigan, is a little over 5. Careline Hospice exceeds this average by over 70 percent.
